Tapeworm

Life has been, and continues to be, extracted from tape technology. Tape and machine have become host to the Larasites that seek to draw life from them. In the organic world these parasites manifest themselves as tapeworms. Tapeworm is a series of four movements based on minimal sound elements from a cassette player.

Leader tape and the noises that were able to be captured from its run out from the tape. As cassettes were notorious for being eaten by cassette players, each sound feeds itself to the point of destruction.

Wow and Flutter. Imperfections in the tape unit. The rhythm of the motor straining when it reaches the end of the tape, a tremolo in the cadence.  Electrical interference from poorly earthed leads. Feedback.

Contrasting mechanical rhythm and electrical glitches. An ambient cadence sits below an ordered crackle of microsounds. The machine wins out with order crumbling away.

The rhythm of the machine. Moving forward to start again. Going nowhere. Listening
